Division of
Transdisciplinary Sciences
Challenge Science and Technology Innovation
through Transdisciplinary fusion.
Kanazawa University and Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology launched the joint graduate school concept to foster “Human Resources in Innovation, Science and Technology” who can lead society powerfully with outstanding ideas and abilities to take action in an uncertain modern society.
Based on the idea that the creation of new knowledge, the source of innovation, comes from the "transdisciplinary" of multiple scientific disciplines that transcends existing scientific disciplines, Division of Transdisciplinary Sciences was established. The aim is to build a "Transdisciplinary fusion graduate school education model" in which both universities challenge new research fields.
Collaborative educational courses
"Kanazawa University" and "Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, the two universities provide each other's "faculty members" and "courses" to provide joint graduate education.
THREE features
Developing interdisciplinary education to foster human resources in innovation, science and technology.
ONE curriculum
This “Collaborative educational courses” offers courses from Kanazawa University and the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) to form a single educational curriculum. Therefore, students of “collaborative educational courses” are entitled to the same educational program regardless of which university they enter.
This “collaborative educational courses” is a compartmentalized graduate program with the two-year master's program and the three-year doctoral program, we are preparing the five-year systematic program leading to the doctoral program. The admission capacity is as follows.
Master's program | Doctoral program | |
---|---|---|
Kanazawa University | 14 people | 14 people |
Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) | 10 people | 5 people |
In particular, Kanazawa University strongly recommend a five-year program of study.
In order to experience the connection between your own research agenda and innovation in scene of the society, “Internship” is required in the master's program. “Study abroad” is required in the doctoral program.
In order to obtain new ideas and strategies, lab rotation beyond your own research field will be incorporated into the curriculum and compulsory subjects.
We have a variety of academic support systems in place to help you devote themselves to your studies and research!
Strengths of the TWO universities
In this collaborative educational courses, Kanazawa University and the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) each offer subjects in their respective fields of expertise. In addition, faculty members with strong ambitions and accomplishments in interdisciplinary education and research have been assigned to the graduate school. On the occasion of internships and research study abroad, students can take advantage of the wide range of fields available at both universities.
THREE challenges
Although there are no courses in this collaborative educational courses from the perspective of promoting education that integrates various fields of study, we have established three specific frameworks to enable students to learn in a systematic manner. Students can choose one of the three frameworks, "1.Life Innovation", "2.Green Innovation", or "3.System Innovation" according to the social issues they are going to work on.
Creating a healthy,
high quality lifestyle
Measurement, elucidation, and control of biological functions that contribute to individual healthy lifestyles, and their application.
Creation of environmentally friendly next-generation
materials, devices and energy
Creation, storage and transportation of natural and renewable energy / Development of energy-saving devices using new materials and nanotechnology
Creating a future society where science
and technology are in harmony with people and society
Development of intelligent systems using big data and artificial intelligence (AI) / Development of biological-inspired systems and machines / Improvement of the social environment based on the natural and cultural environment
